These blogs will always be a blend of my two biggest loves: skincare and food, and thankfully they are often interchangeable. I think that food is the most important factor to consider when approaching a good skincare routine, especially for problematic skin.

What you eat (as we well know) will have an effect on not only your body and health but also your skin. An example of this is sugar which will cause a spike in insulin levels which can increase sebum production leading to a spot break-out or acne. Keeping hydrated, eating antioxidant and anti-inflammatory foods will help achieve the glow we aspire to have. Two litres of water a day with a whole sliced lemon is what I swear by but I will often mix this up not with fruit but herbs! Herb infused water is delicious and is also very good for you. Parsley is my second favourite flavour to add to my water. It contains amazing vitamins to strengthen the immune system and contacts vitamin C, A, K and is excellent for digestion….who needs squash? I of course, also love how you can incorporate food into a skincare regime. Don’t get me wrong as lover of testing all natural products I am not loyal to one face mask and I do buy a variety, but I also love a homemade face mask.

My favourite at the moment is a turmeric mask. I am totally, unequivocally obsessed with turmeric. I incorporate it into so many of my foods - rice, lattes, curries, smoothies and stir-fries. The options are endless.

Turmeric contains Curcumin which is a natural anti-inflammatory compound and dramatically increases the antioxidant capacity of the body. Consumed with black pepper, its absorption into the body is enhanced. It is also great for the skin if used externally and may help reduce acne and blemishes. The anti-inflammatory properties will also reduce redness.

The Ingredients I blend are:

·         turmeric powder

·         bentonite clay

·         water (just a little)

·         brown sugar

I mix these ingredients together, apply them and leave to dry for 10-15 mins, this can then be washed off with warm water and then I tend to splash my face with cold water to close the pores. I do this once a week or three days before a holiday.
